April 27, 2020 - Welcome back to another week of quarantine coverage. It's Chronicle correspondent Jeremy Visser here, stationed in an overused office chair in Etobicoke-by-the-Lake, Canada, describing another eventful week.

During the weekend, a gathering of pinheads came together in front of the Ontario legislature to willfully disobey the province's shelter-in-place guidance. Placards that appeared to have been taken straight from Fox News images of stateside protests were displaying witticisms such as 'I want a haircut' and '#COVEXIT.' The cavorting demonstrators chanted their view that the virus is a "hoax" created by "fake news." Using restrained descriptive language, the province's Premier, Doug Ford, described the protesters as a "bunch of yahoos."

In a related development, Health Canada has issued warnings against off-label use of hydroxychloroquine. After an Arizona couple swallowed chloroquine phosphate, used for cleaning fish tanks, Health Canada has seen the need to warn the public about buying illegitimate medication online.

COVID CHRONICLE 04/27/2020
  • Adults in their 30s and 40s have been experiencing strokes as an unexpected side effect of Covid-19. Growing evidence has shown that it is possible for the disease to cause blood clots that can result in strokes.
  • In Ontario, a temporary "pandemic payment" has been announced that will give an extra $4 an hour and a potential $250 monthly sum to front-line workers in health care and long-term care. The plan is currently expected to be implemented over a 4 month period.
  • WHO has stated that there is "no evidence" that those recovered from Covid-19 cannot be infected again. This information was addressed in response to countries discussing "immunity passports" for recovered Covid-19 patients.

STORIES CHRONICLE IS WORKING ON TODAY

Assistant Editor Kylie Rebernik is interviewing Dr. Renita Ahluwalia for an article about body dysmorphic disorder in patients with acne. It will be in an upcoming issue of The Chronicle of Skin & Allergy.

RIGHT NOW WE ARE LISTENING TO...

Frederic Francois Chopin. Classical piano music makes for great background noise while writing, but considering the famous Romantic period pianist had so many health problems in his life, it seems a fitting choice for working form home during a global pandemic.

RIGHT NOW WE ARE READING...

V. E. Schwab's Darker Shade of Magic trilogy. What's better suited for social distancing than a book club? With a well designed fantasy world spanning across multiple Londons in different worlds, it's a great self-contained read to discuss with your friends that you might not be seeing as much as you'd like.

TONIGHT WE ARE COOKING...

It's very possible we'll just order in Thai food again.
