September 30, 2020—We've arrived at the last day of September and the end of Month 7 of self-isolation. As predicted, CurveFlatteners, the second wave of Covid-19 has come crashing down. Sharing the grim data with you this morning is Chronicle's Kylie Rebernik.

Canada's two largest provinces are getting hit the hardest. On Monday (09/28), Ontario reported 700 new confirmed Covid-19 cases and an additional 554 cases and four deaths on Tuesday (09/29). In Quebec, new restrictions will come into effect tomorrow (10/01), as the province reports 5,000
new active cases. Some measures undertaken by Quebec's government include the re-closing of bars, restaurants, museums, and movie theatres, as well as mandating that only people who cohabitate are allowed to be home together at the same time.

Globally, the death toll from Covid-19 passed one million this week.

Although the data shows that the second wave has officially hit, there are those who are still inclined to believe that Covid-19 is a hoaxas seen during the protests to end the lockdown held over the past weekend at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. The street action included a protestor who broke quarantine after traveling to Europe in order to speak to the assembled collection of 100 dingbats, defectives, and dolts.

The NPC Podcast is back. The organizers of the National Pharmaceutical Congress are proud to release our new weekly podcast series, hosted by Peter Brenders. Peter's guest this week is Sheila Frame of Sandoz. Listen here now, or download the episode and play it at your convenience. The NPC Podcast is presented in cooperation with Impres Pharma

COVID CHRONICLE 09/30/2020

  • According to BMJ (Sept. 24, 2020), the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created controversy after publishing and withdrawing research on the aerosol transmission of Covid-19. On Sept. 18, 2020, the CDC published this on their website:  “respiratory droplets or small particles, such as those in aerosols, produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks, or breathes. These particles can be inhaled into the nose, mouth, airways, and lungs and cause infection. This is thought to be the main way the virus spreads," however on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, the information was removed from the site.
  • A research letter published Sept. 24, 2020 in JAMA highlights that critically ill Covid-19 patients are experiencing multi-organ complications, including severe gastrointestinal complications during their hospital stays. The report included data from 141 patients, with 58 per cent of the patients experiencing severe GI complications.
  • A broad spectrum of skin manifestations has been found in patients with Covid-19. According to an opinion piece published in JAMA (Sept. 22, 2020), Covid-19 has highlighted ways in which dermatologists can move forward with research, education, and treatment of various skin conditions as a symptom of Covid-19.

WHAT CHRONICLE IS WORKING ON TODAY

Tomorrow is the first session of the sixth Skin Spectrum Summit: The Canadian Conference on Ethnodermatology, and the team at Chronicle is working to give delegates and faculty a flawless experience. If you want to learn more, including information on the 17 faculty members, visit www.skinspectrum.ca.

TONIGHT I AM EATING...

Pizza. It's all about the pizza. Dominos always some good coupons and the act of purchasing 12 mushroom pizzas for the price of nine might possibly mean some leftovers for my lunch on Thursday while I work on the final touches for Skin Spectrum Summit

THE HAND-OFF

Please make use of the comments section at the Daily CurveFlattener, and let us know what you're up to today. Chronicle's Jeremy Visser will take the wheel tomorrow.
