August 13, 2020—Hello CurveFlatteners and Welcome to this week's pre-Friday edition of the Daily CurveFlattener. It is assistant editor Kylie Rebernik at the keyboard this morning.

If you are craving live music this coming weekend there are several venues being that have been prepared with your safety and well-being in mind. It was just announced that the heavy metal band Metallica will be participating in Encore Drive-In Nights, filming a special performance to be viewed across drive-ins in Canada and the U.S. on August 29, 2020. Organizers of the Encore Drive-In Nights have already said that all staff will be required to wear PPE equipment and cars will be told to park in parking spots six feet apart. And if the thought of first finding and then spending the evening in a drive-in is not your thing (sub-par popcorn! squealing infant in the next vehicle!), many artists are offering exclusive pay-per-view live steams. If you are only seeking a recreation of the live music experience, I am sure you can dig out those old "Live in Concert" DVDs that you've likely consigned to storage somewhere.

COVID CHRONICLE 08/12/2020
  • A mining company in Ontario is the first company in Canada to use rapid Covid-19 testing outside of a lab. The tests which are being sold by Guelph-based Precision Biomonitoring can provide results within an hour.
  • New research published in JAMA (Jul. 29, 2020) compared data between U.S. states that had mandated state-wide school closures and U.S. states that did not have state-wide school closures. Researchers found that states with mandated school-closures recorded lower incidence of Covid-19 and death due.
  • According to Canada's chief health officer Dr. Theresa Tam, Canadians should prepare to keep wearing face masks for the next two to three years. Dr. Tam cautions that a Covid-19 vaccine will not be a "silver bullet". Currently, there are 166 Covid-19 vaccines at various stages in pre-clinical and human testing.
  • Two Ontario researchers have determined that Covid-19 may have multiple ways to regulate and infect the lungs. Findings from their research were published in the European Respiratory Journal.
WHAT CHRONICLE IS WORKING ON TODAY...

I am putting the finishing touches on the layout for the summer edition of the Canadian Journal of Medical Cannabis. If you would like to learn more about the Canadian Journal of Medical Cannabis please visit www.cjmc.ca.

RIGHT NOW I AM WATCHING...

Having almost binged everything Netflix has to offer, I have now turned Netflix's original show Sugar Rush: Extra Sweet. If you easily get food cravings from cooking shows you may want to skip it, but if you don't, it is at least worth having on in the background.

TOMORROW AND TOMORROW

Please make use of the comments section at the Daily CurveFlattener, to let us know what you're up to today. Or feel free to check in via LinkedIn, email, or your choice of connector. By all means, pass this newsletter along to your colleagues. Our Dhiren Mahiban will continue the Covid-related coverage tomorrow morning.
